The building in which this room is located dates back to 1934; however, its history makes it part of a much older institution: le Collège St Joseph, founded in 1864. In 1881, the Acadians held their first national convention meeting here. The college eventually became l'Université St Joseph and then l'Université de Moncton. In 1966, the campus was called l'Institut de Memramcook; it included a number of buildings and was an extension of l'Université de Moncton. L'Institut de Memramcook finaly became an independent corporation in 1968.
Today (2010), it comprises three affiliates: the Memramcook Resort, ATHENE - Training Services and the National Life/Work Centre. The Memramcook Resort hosts wedding banquets, corporate meetings, workshops, training seminars, and other functions for up to 400 attendees. The premises include a large cafeteria, a bar, meetings rooms, lodging accomodations, a chapel, an art gallery, and a spa. A golf course is also nearby.
